The Surroundings

To the camping Le Clavéyou will never be bored. Between swimming in our pool, mini-golf gamesor pétanque tournaments, and relaxing moments by the river, there's something for everyone.

You can explore the surroundings on foot, by bike or even on horseback. Lake Arjuzanx, the ocean beaches the largest pine forest in Europe, and hiking trails await you for active days full of discovery.

You can try fishing, water sports or even surfing.

And if history is more your thing, the inland area is full of cultural and historical sites, not to mention the culinary specialties of the Landes culture..

Lake Arjuzanx: swimming, walking and activities

Just 5 minutes from the campsite, discover the magnificent Lake Arjuzanx where you can swim or go for a walk — a nice change from the campsite pool.

Open to the public, the vast Lake Arjuzanx is a real oasis of tranquillity and nature within the nature reserve. It offers several activities for all tastes and all ages.

In summer, the lake offers very pleasant swimming on a sandy beach. Swimmers will enjoy the good water quality.

For fishing enthusiaststhe lake, classified as a 2nd category fishing site, promises hours of relaxation and enjoyment. (Check required fishing permits).

If you prefer water sportsthe lake is navigable. In canoe, paddle, pedal boat, catamaranyou can explore the lake as you wish. On the beach, a boat rental service is available from April to November depending on the weather, so you can enjoy water activities.

You can also bring your own equipment (you will have to carry it from the parking areas or check if there is access to a launching area).

The Arjuzanx Nature Reserve

The reserve is located in the heart of the Landes Regional Natural Park.

The campsite is just a stone's throw from the reserve and the lake.

The Arjuzanx National Nature Reserve (RNN), located across three municipalities: Morcenx-la-Nouvelle, Rion des Landes, and Villenave, was designated on September 2, 2022.

This protected area covers 2,205 hectares, making it the largest nature reserve in the Landes.

It is a major site in France for hosting common cranes. It is the most important site in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, even in France, for the wintering of cranes, with a wintering population of 25,000 to 30,000 cranes and migratory peaks that can reach up to 80,000 cranes.

The Marquèze Ecomuseum

Just 20 minutes from Camping Le Clavé, discover theMarquèze Ecomuseum.

Head to Sabres station to take a steam locomotive to Marquèze.

After a 10-minute journey, you arrive at a 25-hectare 'airial' (clearing) and you are transported 150 years back in time, into the heart of the Landes forest, and an entire ancient civilization comes to life:

Traditional houses, mill, bread oven, farm, animals, old furniture and tools — you experience the rural Landes of the 19th century.

 

The ecomuseum offers many events andworkshops as well as exhibitions and shows. It is open from June to November.

Contis: ocean beach, surfing

Contis, a charming seaside resort in the Landes on the Atlantic Ocean, is full of attractions.

Located 35 minutes from the campsite, its white sandy beach stretches for 8 km and offers an ideal setting for swimming and surfing, the region's flagship activity

Dominating the landscape, the Contis lighthousethe only lighthouse in the Landes department, rises to 38 meters. After climbing its 184 steps, you are rewarded with an exceptional panorama over the ocean and the surrounding forest. Nature lovers will enjoy descending the Contis stream by canoe — an 8 km ride through an ecosystem rich in flora and fauna.

The Contis summer market, held on Wednesdays and Sundays, lets you discover local culinary specialties in a friendly atmosphere.

The Brassempouy Prehistoric Site

Nestled in the heart of the Landes, the Brassempouy Prehistoric Site offers a fascinating immersion in Prehistory, ideal for history lovers and families looking for enriching discoveries.

A museum dedicated to the Lady of Brassempouy

The museum, called « Maison de la Dame », displays the archaeological treasures discovered at the Pope's Caves site. Among them, the famous 'Lady with the Hood', an ivory statuette more than 25,000 years old, considered one of the earliest known representations of the human face.

The ArchéoParc: an interactive experience

Continue your visit in theLady’s ArchéoParcan open-air space recreating the landscapes and habitats of Prehistory. Watch demonstrations of ancestral techniques such as flint knapping, fire lighting, or spear-thrower hunting.

Dax, the town and thermal baths

Daxlocated in the Landes 30 minutes from the Camping le Clavéit's a renowned spa town known since Antiquity for its hot waters with healing properties.

Capital of hydrotherapy in Franceit attracts many spa-goers each year who come to enjoy treatments based on thermal mud.

But Dax is not just about its thermal baths! Its charming city center, arenas, Gallo-Roman heritage, and popular festivals — especially the Feria of Dax in August — offer a warm and festive atmosphere.
